The A-4 Skyhawk - code name 'Ayit' served within the Israeli Air Force for almost six decades. The first aircraft arrived on the last days of 1967, and the last ones ended their service at the end of 2015. Two squadrons were oprating the A-4s from the northern wing of the IAF - Ramat David AFB. 109 Squadron was the first squadron to operate the plane. It operated the aircraft during the War of Attrition from 1967 till August 1970 and the Yom Kippur War in October 1973. The squadron operated the A-4H until July 1977, when they converted for the Kfir aircraft. The 110 Squadron operated the French heavy bomber Vautours until 1971. During that year, used ex-US Navy A-4Es arrived in Israel and entered service 110 and 116 squadrons.
