Native to the coasts of Chile and Peru, the piure is a tunicate, an invertebrate marine animal. The piure is a food with great nutritional value, as it provides a large amount of iron. It is usually eaten raw or cooked; it must be removed from the rock and cut into small pieces. This soft mollusk can be eaten with chopped onion, cilantro, and lots of lemon, or even in empanadas.
